THE FOUNDING BOTTLES (PRE-WAR): The stories from this period highlight controversies, tragedies, and pivotal events like the phylloxera outbreak, World War I, the Great Depression, and Prohibition and shine a spotlight on the resilient wineries that prevailed in the face of these challenges.

GENERATION OLD SCHOOL (POSTWAR TO 1989): In this period, farmers gained technological advances like gasoline- and electric-powered machinery, as well as pesticides and chemical fertilizers, which brought some relief to farming’s challenges. This generation became the first to successfully implement organic and biodynamic farming techniques.
THE REIGN OF POINTS (1990–2008): In this era, wine consultants emerged and instructed winemakers on the newer tools available, like experimenting with different strains of yeast, adding nutrients during fermentation, and analyzing the chemistry of an unfinished wine. Some wines from this era were failed experiments, while a select few prevailed.
THE CURIOUS AGE (2009 TO PRESENT): A renewed focus on wine exploration has emerged. Now the obsession is with acidity, freshness, and lightness. Instead of jammy and buttery, consumers seek out earthy and salty. The best producers avoid flavor trends altogether, putting their heads down to make the most excellent product, without compromise.
