Mountain Snow Pieris, from the Southern Living Plant Collection, is a new and improved evergreen landscape shrub that is more heat tolerant than traditional Pieris Japonica Shrubs. New foliage of this shrub will be bronze-maroon and as it matures it will change hues to a deep emerald green. In late summer, large clusters of pendulous buds will appear that will persist until late fall to winter when the blooms will flower with beautiful ivory bell-shaped blossoms.
This is a great specimen for growing in a part shade to shade location and colder exposures with a very wide growing USDA zone of 4a-8b (Hardy to -30°F to -20°F). Pruning is not necessary with this low-maintenance compact grower (mature size 3-4’ tall X 3’ wide), but if desired, we recommend pruning in early Spring before the first flush of new foliage. Mountain Snow Pieris are commonly used in mixed foundation plantings, low perennial borders, in mass garden plantings, or as specimen plantings.
